Commercial license

On any paid plan, every guide you build comes with a worldwide, perpetual, royalty-free commercial license to the output: the written copy, the page design as exported, the PDF, the cover image, and the listing text.

It does not expire when your subscription does. A guide you built while subscribed stays licensed forever, including after you cancel.

• Sell it, at any price, on any storefront: Gumroad, Etsy, Shopify, Payhip, your own site.
• Give it away as a lead magnet or a bonus.
• Bundle it with other products, yours or someone else's.
• Rewrite, extend, cut, or merge it with your own material.
• Put your own name and brand on it. No credit to Octavo is required on a paid plan.
• Translate it and sell the translation.
• Print it and sell physical copies.
• Turn it into a course, a video, a newsletter series, or anything else.

• Resell the guide as a template or PLR product for other people to rebrand and sell on.
• Claim you made the tool, or present Octavo's software, templates, or design system as your own.
• Use it for anything illegal, defamatory, or infringing.
• Publish medical, legal, or financial guidance as professional advice when it is not.

The first one is the one worth reading twice. Selling the guide is the point. Selling it as a blank others can rebrand is not.

The free plan exists so you can take one guide all the way through and see the whole thing work. Its export carries a watermark and is not licensed for resale. Use it to evaluate, share it privately, print it for yourself.

Upgrading and re-exporting the same guide removes the watermark and licenses it under everything above. You do not have to rebuild it.

Photos come from Pexels under the Pexels license: free for commercial use, no attribution required, and it travels with the guide when you sell it. Your export notes credit each photographer regardless, because it costs nothing and it is the decent thing.

Two limits come from Pexels rather than from us. You may not sell an unmodified photo on its own as stock, and you may not imply a person shown in a photo endorses your product. Neither affects using photos inside a guide.

The typefaces used in the exported PDF are embedded under licenses that permit commercial document embedding. You are licensed to sell the PDF as it exports. You are not licensed to extract the font files and use them elsewhere.

Paid exports carry a small footer credit. Press tier removes it entirely for white-label work. On Starter and Studio the credit stays, and it is the only thing we ask for a license with no revenue share attached to it.

We do not promise a guide is original in the sense of never resembling anything else. Octavo varies angle, structure, title treatment, and photography on every build specifically so that two people working in the same niche do not receive the same book, but language models are not a novelty guarantee and we will not pretend otherwise.

Read what you publish. Check anything factual. That responsibility is yours, as set out in the terms of service.
